Mass of the Holy Spirit at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, Boston

In a centuries-old tradition for Catholic educational institutions, the entire Cathedral High School community began the new school year in prayer with a Mass of the Holy Spirit at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross on Monday, September 16.

Students and faculty were joined by parents, alumni, and community members for the Mass celebrated by the Very Reverend Brian McHugh, Episcopal Vicar of the Central Region for the Archdiocese of Boston. Father McHugh was joined by concelebrants Reverend Monsignor William Cuddy ‘67, and Reverend Pablo Gomis, Parochial Vicar of the Cathedral.

At the Mass of the Holy Spirit, students and faculty pray for the guidance and the gifts of the Holy Spirit for the coming academic year. The students were led in the church’s rich tradition of plainchant and hymnody by Richard J. Clark, Director of Music for the Archdiocese of Boston and the Cathedral, and Cantor, Anna Ward. Afterward, members of the Cathedral community were invited to the Deacon Rosa Room for a coffee reception with new Principal, Nampeera Lugira.
