April 21, 2020

Dear Cathedral Families,

As you may have already heard today, Governor Baker has mandated that all schools in Massachusetts, including Cathedral High School, remain closed for the remainder of the school year. To comply with this, our team is already planning how we will handle this continued closure. While our building and campus may be closed, our classrooms remain open virtually and learning continues.

With this latest announcement, it was challenging and sad for me to explain to my own children that they will not return to their routines, friends, classroom, and activities. I’m sure many of you are coping with the same range of emotions.

We will have more information in the coming weeks, but for now I want to share with you these key points:

  • You—our students and families—are always our primary concern. We pray for you, we want to stay in touch with you, and we want to know how we can help. In addition to the resources we have already shared and offered, contact us if there are more ways you need assistance.
  • Online learning will continue. Knowing we can’t yet return to campus, it’s now more important than ever for students to get engaged with their teachers and classes to finish the school year as strongly as possible. You are not alone in that effort—we are all here to support you.
  • For our class of 2020: Graduation will certainly look and feel differently, but we will still have our 89th Commencement Exercises virtually on May 30th at 10 a.m. Stay tuned for more details in the next two weeks. We are committed to honoring the incredible achievements of this graduating class. Should current social distancing restrictions be lifted, we will plan for a senior celebration in August and will have more information on that as we get closer.

COVID-19 has compelled us all to be flexible, adapt, re-think, and re-plan. At Cathedral, our planning prioritizes the physical health, emotional well-being, and academic success of our students. We are continuing in our commitment to communicate regularly and consistently with you, so you can expect more detailed and specific information about our plan forward in the coming weeks.

Stay safe, stay healthy, and stay tuned. We will get through this together.

Sincerely,
Dan Carmody
